Superintendent Darin Drill reported that student enrollment is holding within three (3) students of last year’s final number, a level he said will help the district as it begins planning the 2025–26 budget. He told the board the Governor’s initial proposal for the state education budget is $11.36 billion for education, approximately $1 billion more than the current biennium.
Drill and board members discussed the legislative session, where more than 800 education-related bills are expected, and the potential impacts on Cascade SD 5’s budget assumptions. Board members asked staff about how enrollment projections are being used in budget planning; Finance Director Mr. Pillar said the district is monitoring enrollment closely and that long-term substitute costs have stabilized but may require a dedicated special revenue fund. The board took no formal action on budget policy at the meeting.
