District leaders weigh state LGPT requirements against local data needs

Brookings-Harbor SD 17C officials reviewed Longitudinal Growth Performance Targets on Dec. 11, emphasizing tensions between state reporting timelines and the district’s ability to use local data for immediate action. Superintendent Helena Chirinian noted the requirement while stressing the advantage of faster local tracking for interventions.

“Being present, open-minded, and fostering positive, solutions-based discussions,” Chirinian said when framing the metrics review, which listed 9th Grade on Track, 3rd Grade Reading, graduation rates and attendance as priority indicators. Attendees discussed how local data teams provide near-real-time trend analysis compared with delayed state reports.

District staff and table groups highlighted that local collection practices have improved accuracy and utility for interventions, allowing schools to respond more quickly to attendance or credit-recovery concerns. The meeting did not change any LGPT submissions; the group focused on aligning district strategy and data practices with state requirements and the upcoming Integrated Guidance application.
