Each director had three votes to allocate; the recorded tallies were Academic Success 4, Staff Wellness and Retention 4, Safe and Well‑Maintained Facilities 3, School Safety and Security 2, Student Support Services 1, and Robust, Culturally‑Specific Community Partnerships 1. The vote framed the district’s short list of priorities heading into budget planning.
Directors debated whether to consolidate several related items — including safety, student supports and culturally specific partnerships — under a single umbrella priority such as an "Emotional Well‑Being" category to better capture crosscutting work. The discussion also included proposals to pilot participatory budgeting at Reynolds High School and a note that survey materials currently do not include definitions; staff said no clarification questions had been received but that definitions could be added in future outreach.
The vote was taken as a directional step to guide staff as they build draft budgets and does not by itself appropriate funds. The board is expected to use the prioritized list to shape spending proposals and to inform future public engagement on tradeoffs and specific allocations.
