Kindergarten teacher spotlights 'Tools of the Mind' program, board hears early results

Kindergarten teacher Teal Fleming presented a slideshow to the Port Orford-Langlois School District 2CJ board highlighting classroom activities under the Tools of the Mind curriculum and student projects such as dramatized fairy-tale performances and set-building.
Superintendent Aaron Miller told the board the program is producing measurable classroom benefits and said “dis-regulated students are a problem nationwide and this program is proving to be successful in addressing those issues.” Fleming and staff described activities that build self-regulation, comprehension and collaboration. The district did not provide formal outcome metrics at the meeting; staff said the program is showing "promising results" in classroom observations.
