Board approves Rotary Peace Poles program and advances first readings of multiple student policies
Summary
The board agreed to participate in the Rotary Club's Peace Poles program with locations set by building principals and completed first readings of a long list of student-related policies, including interdistrict transfer language to be reviewed again.
The Port Orford-Langlois board voted May 18 to participate in the Rotary Club's Peace Poles program. Board member Carol Hacherl moved to accept the program with installation locations based on district input and temporary poles recommended to allow yearly relocation; Angel Ashdown seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Board member Bob Brown noted the Rotary Club does not represent any particular political party.
In reoccurring business the board conducted first readings of numerous policies (items 1–38 listed in the minutes) covering equal educational opportunity, sexual harassment procedures, Section 504, attendance, admissions and student conduct, among others. Discussion touched on JECF-AR Interdistrict Transfer language and whether to impose transfer limits; the board accepted the policies as first readings and scheduled second readings at the next meeting (motion by Judy Miles, seconded by Angel Ashdown).
