At the May 18 meeting the board heard an educational spotlight from student Shayla Carpenter about the senior class trip to Sunriver Resort near Bend, Oregon. Carpenter highlighted activities including high-speed go-kart racing, swimming and attending a wrestling show, and described the trip as a chance for students to "hang out and have fun." PHS graduates were awarded a total of $63,000 in scholarships, and the district held scholarship awards ahead of the graduation ceremony to give grantors the opportunity to meet recipients.
Board member Bob Brown said he appreciated the separate scholarship ceremony because it avoided disadvantaging students who did not receive awards. The board recorded the total scholarship amount in its materials as part of the graduation planning.
