Board adopts K–12 science materials: Mystery Science, Lab-Aids, Patterns (McGraw Hill)
Summary
The board approved an independent adoption of Mystery Science (K–5), Lab-Aids (6–8), and Patterns High School Science (McGraw Hill) for high-school core and elective courses. The motion passed unanimously.
Shannon Brennan, Director of Teaching, Learning & Assessment, presented recommended K–12 science instructional materials on May 22 and answered board questions. The board approved the proposed adoptions for each level without dissent.
The motion (moved by Director Judy Richardson and seconded by Director Joel Vaught) adopted Mystery Science for grades K–5, Lab-Aids for grades 6–8, and Patterns High School Science (McGraw Hill) to cover high-school core and McGraw Hill electives. The board recorded the approval as unanimous.
Brennan noted the materials will be incorporated consistent with district instructional timelines and that further implementation details are included in the presentation slides attached to the meeting agenda. Staff were directed to proceed with local rollout plans and teacher support for the new materials.
