Chanute board holds executive sessions on student and personnel matters, approves personnel report

During its July 1 meeting the Chanute Board of Education held a series of closed executive sessions under the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA). The board first moved into closed session to discuss confidential student information, inviting Superintendent Matthew Koester and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Heather Burris and indicating a planned return to open session at 7:33 PM.
Later the board went into closed session to discuss an individual employee's performance under the non-elected personnel exception to KOMA, invited Superintendent Koester, and extended that session until 8:02 PM. The board then met in closed session to consider resignations, retirements, employments and transfers of non-elected personnel, again inviting Superintendent Koester and Assistant Superintendent Burris. After reconvening, the board moved to approve the personnel report as presented. Motions to enter and extend executive sessions, and to approve the personnel report, were carried by recorded votes of five in favor (two absences). The meeting adjourned after the personnel actions were approved.
