Court approves $1,000 county contribution to Pancho Claus Festival

The Lubbock County Commissioners Court voted Nov. 24 to award $1,000 from unclaimed funds to Fiesta Deliano to support the Pancho Claus Festival, a long-running holiday event the presenter said began in 1971.
Sanaida Auerro Reyes, identified as president of Fiesta Deliano, told the court the festival regularly draws attendees from surrounding towns and that last year’s event attracted about 1,200 people. "We ran out of toys to give to the children that were present," Reyes said, urging the court for assistance to buy fruit and additional toys. She said the 2025 event budget is about $6,000 and the requested county funds would help pay for fruit bags and toys.
The request was presented under county authority to use unclaimed funds and referenced Section 74.601 of the Texas Property Code and Local Government Code §381.004 for use of such funds for economic development. After a motion and second, the court approved the $1,000 award. Reyes thanked the court following the vote.
The county did not adopt any conditions on the use of funds in the public record beyond the statutory citations mentioned during the item.
