Deputy Superintendent Jeanne Grazioli briefed the board on proposed revisions to policy JFCEB governing student use of personal electronic devices and social media. Grazioli said she had consulted secondary principals, student leadership groups and union leadership and that "the revisions would not impact elementary and middle schools." High school principals recommended implementing any changes beginning in the 2025–26 school year to allow time to update handbooks and reteach expectations before enforcement.
Directors asked several clarifying questions during the discussion, including how students with medical needs would access phones, whether the policy would be grade‑specific or K–12, curriculum exceptions that require device access, and the role of district‑issued Chromebooks. The board directed staff to return the policy for a second reading at the Jan. 23 board meeting; no final vote was taken on Dec. 19.
