Lubbock County Commissioners on Nov. 22 approved a $10,000 sponsorship for the 2026 Buffalo Grass Festival, a professional-development and community-focused music event run by the Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation.
Stacy Keith, director of the Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation, outlined the festival's focus and sponsorship levels, saying, "The presenting sponsor level this year is set at a $15,000 level and then we also have a main stage sponsorship which is at a $10,000 level." Scott Farris and Joy Harris described workshops, master classes and outreach to Lubbock ISD and South Plains College intended to benefit young musicians and local music professionals. Judge Parrish moved to fund the event at the $15,000 level but accepted an amendment to $10,000; the court then approved funding at the main-stage sponsor level.
The presenters said proceeds and programming are aimed at supporting local musicians and building career pathways from Lubbock, citing about 400 participants in last year’s workshops and in-kind partnerships with Texas Tech School of Music and local venues. Commissioners did not request additional conditions; the court's approval directs staff to implement the sponsorship consistent with local government code provisions cited by the presenters.
