County approves caliche contracts and hears road department report on open work orders

The Commissioners Court authorized agreements with Ronnie Zahn Paving Inc. and 5 S Farms for removal and processing of caliche used in county road construction and maintenance, as awarded in ITB 250707. Staff described these agreements as the county’s pit-run contracts for the current year.
Public Works provided a status report on department staffing and open work orders. Staff said there is an open road tech position and an open administrative assistant position. On work orders the report listed 21 open items for paved roads, 39 open work orders for another paved-roads category, 23 open sign work orders, six routine parks tasks and approximately 83 open fleet maintenance work orders. The report focused on staffing constraints and the backlog of service requests.
The court approved the caliche processing agreements by motion and directed staff to continue managing open work queues and recruitment for vacant roles.
