The Silver Falls School District 4J Board voted unanimously Jan. 12 to establish a sick leave bank for employee 2025‑2026‑1 that will provide up to 50 days of additional leave to staff who have exhausted their accrued sick time. Director Josh Ort moved the motion and a director identified in the record as DeSantis seconded; all seven board members voted in favor.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Anthony Rosilez told the board there are three procedures for when staff exhaust their sick leave and explained how a board‑established sick leave bank would operate alongside the bargaining agreement. "The district has received a request for the Board to vote on a sick leave bank for up to 50 days," Rosilez said, and both Superintendent Kim Kellison and Rosilez indicated they were in favor of the request.
Board discussion included questions about possible downsides to approving the bank and how it would interact with existing contract provisions. The motion passed with Phil Wiesner, Derrick Foxworth, Daniel Cote, Sarah Dalisky, Kasshawna Knoll, Wally Lierman and Josh Ort recorded as voting in favor. The board did not record any abstentions or no votes.
