15 Kearney High students selected for Nebraska All-State; band and orchestra to perform at educators' convention

Rick Mitchell, Kearney High School band teacher, told the board that 15 Kearney High students were selected for the 2025 Nebraska All-State ensembles and that the KHS band and orchestra were invited to perform at the associated educators' convention. "This year, Kearney High School had seven in band, four in choir, and four in orchestra," Mitchell said, noting the district's competitive audition environment where roughly 2,000 students audition and ensembles seat 500–600.
Mitchell also noted a special recognition: student Antonio Guerrero became the first KHS student selected to All-State for four consecutive years. The board acknowledged the students and teachers for the accomplishment; the recognition underscores the district’s music program success and its visibility at statewide events.
