Superintendent Erika Bare reported to the South Umpqua School District Board that the district's strategic plan is on track and that a consultant identified as Gayle visited the district on Jan. 6 and will return Jan. 16 to meet with the steering committee. Bare said Jan. 6 was a professional development day for staff with different grade-level focuses: elementary licensed staff concentrated on literacy; middle school teachers focused on effective use of data and a new progress monitoring tool; and high school departments worked on curriculum and standards alignment related to assessment.
Bare also told trustees that the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee held its first meeting on Jan. 7 with roughly 10 to 11 staff members and that the licensed evaluation committee held its first meeting on Jan. 6. The superintendent described these committee starts as part of the ongoing implementation steps tied to the strategic plan and said the district has continued information-gathering conversations with staff as the plan moves forward.
The board received these updates during its Jan. 8 meeting; Bare's report covered both near-term operational work (the Jan. 6 PD day) and planning milestones (consultant return and committee formation). No formal action was taken on the strategic plan itself during the meeting.
