Board approves supplemental transportation plan to address student safety at four schools

The Centennial School District Board on May 14 unanimously approved a Transportation Supplemental Plan intended to provide supplemental bus service to four schools where walking routes pose safety concerns.
Paul Southerton, Director of Business & Operations, told the Board the plan targets Pleasant Valley Elementary, Parklane Elementary, Patrick Lynch Elementary and Oliver Middle School and is intended to mitigate environmental and infrastructure risks along student walking routes. "The purpose of the supplemental plan is to address specific areas within each school's walk zone that, while technically within walking distance, pose significant safety risks to students," Southerton said. If the Oregon Department of Education approves the submission, all four schools would qualify for 100% bus service.
Vice Chair Pam Shields moved to approve the plan and Director David Linn seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Board members engaged in follow-up discussion about implementation steps and timelines and asked administration to return with details about routes, eligibility notifications for families, and budget implications prior to any service changes.
