Taft ISD board certifies May 3 trustee election; two new trustees sworn in

The Taft Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Canvass Results Report and the official cumulative results from the May 3, 2025 trustee election at its May 6 meeting. The motion to accept the canvass was made by Trustee Miranda Benedict and seconded by Trustee Greg Benedict; the record shows six yeas, zero nays and one absence (Sylvia Montemayor).
The board recorded absentee, early voting, election day and total tallies for candidates: Paul Luis Treviño 122 total votes, Nicole Banda-Garza 117, Johnny Franco 72, and Sylvia J. Montemayor 71. Following certification, Melissa Hinojosa administered the oath of office and swore in Paul Luis Treviño and Nicole Banda-Garza as trustees for Taft ISD.
The board’s acceptance of the canvass completes the formal post-election process and allows the newly sworn trustees to participate in board duties immediately.
