Mr. Silveira urges civility, short break and clear finalist votes in superintendent interviews

Mr. Silveira, the advisor addressing the board, told members on Monday night to take a break after the interviews and to reserve time to review supplemental materials candidates may hand in before making finalist selections. He told the board that "the ideal number of finalists is 2" but that the board was not required to limit itself to two.

He urged board members to state whom they want to advance and to explain "your why" to colleagues so that voting colleagues understand their reasoning before a motion is made. He warned members to "stay completely away from going down the path of... speak[ing] negatively in any way, shape, or form about any of these candidates," saying disagreements should be resolved by voting rather than personal criticism.

Mr. Silveira also described interview logistics: finalists would give short presentations (the board selects the topic) and candidates' answers to interview questions would run about three to four minutes, which he said helps assess presentation style for a superintendent role. He offered to email sample presentation prompts used by other districts and reminded the board to have interview binders and application materials available during any break to consult candidates' 30/60/90-day plans and other documents.

The board chair asked for any final questions and confirmed administrative details such as returning spreadsheets and binders. The advisor said he would notify candidates by text late if necessary after the late-night session. The meeting record does not include Mr. Silveira's first name.
