Road and Bridge to return to Attwood rock pit; crews pause rocking until moisture improves

Jay Johanek, General Superintendent for Jewell County Road and Bridge, told commissioners the department "will be moving back to Attwood rock pit soon" and said crews "went out on Sunday to grade roads," but that they "need more moisture before touching rock roads much more."
Johanek said the crew had "backed off on rocking" in recent weeks because of dry conditions. He also reported increased vehicle volumes on 250 Rd. from the county line to Highway 36 after the CVA terminal opened in Republic County and proposed installing "local traffic only" signs similar to those used in Cloud and Republic counties. Johanek said the signs would be intended to reduce heavy commercial traffic on smaller county roads.
Brent Beck relayed public feedback including a compliment from Brad Bouray for the Road and Bridge department’s work. Commissioners did not take an immediate formal vote on signage or a new grading schedule; Johanek’s remarks were presented as operational updates and a planning request for future action.
