Burr Oak Library warns county of CKLS policy that would cut $6,000; asks commissioners not to reappoint representative

Kelly and Becky McNichols told the board that a recent Central Kansas Library System (CKLS) policy change will reduce Burr Oak Library funding by $6,000, potentially forcing a 0.5–0.6 mill-levy increase for the small library.
"This policy cuts $6,000.00 in funding to the Burr Oak library and will cause them to raise the mill levy anywhere from .5 or .6 more," the McNichols said. They added that state funding that normally provided $1,000 will not be available this year and said Jan Carlson, appointed to represent Jewell County on CKLS, moved for the policy change at the CKLS meeting.
They asked the county commissioners not to reappoint Carlson as the county's representative. Commissioners did not take action at the meeting but recorded the request; further follow-up or a formal resolution was not made during the session.
