Council appoints Officer Brian Pugliese to permanent status

The council voted to appoint probationary patrol officer Brian Pugliese as a permanent member of the Old Tappan Police Department after more than 12 months of service since his May 15, 2023 appointment. The recommendation, read into the record by a council member, cited Pugliese's certification and training milestones.
"Officer Pugliese has been certified, licensed by this New Jersey Police Training Commission," the recommending statement read. Council members moved and seconded the appointment and approved it by roll call with affirmative votes recorded. Members noted that new hires complete a probationary year during which they may be separated without cause; upon permanent appointment, contractual and tenure provisions apply.
The council scheduled a fuller report from the police chief at the next meeting but completed the personnel action at this session.
