Commissioner William Gerken reported on a meeting with EZ Docks during the May 5 Environmental Commission meeting. He said the dock platform has been located along the Hackensack River and must be retrieved before an assessment can determine whether it can be repaired or should be scrapped; retrieval logistics such as access and timing remain to be arranged.
Gerken also relayed EZ Docks’ evaluation of Nature Preserve boardwalks, which identified installation issues that created uneven decking. Rather than pursue major reconstruction, the focus will be on identifying and addressing minor maintenance needs. He additionally noted concept options are under review for a raised observation platform off the north boardwalk; further recommendations are expected in a future report.
No formal vote or funding request for the dock or platform concepts was recorded at the meeting; retrieval and a maintenance plan were presented as action items to be followed up by Commissioner Gerken and DPW coordination.
