Ridgefield Park Environmental Commission finalizes Earth Day plans despite dock uncertainty

Vice Chair Tammy Laverty opened the Ridgefield Park Environmental Commission meeting on May 5, 2026, and members finalized plans for the town’s Earth Day celebration set for May 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Commissioners reviewed a show schedule and vendor lineup: Snakes N Scales (10:45 a.m.), Mad Science (noon), Wild Life (1:15 p.m.), and Tenafly Nature Center (2 p.m.). The minutes record numerous purchase orders supporting the event, including payments to Snakes N Scales and Mad Science and allocations for food and tabling by Hackensack Riverkeeper and others. The Commission noted it is “unlikely the dock will be fixed and in place by Earth Day,” so retrieval and safety logistics remain outstanding and will not delay the scheduled programming.
The meeting also covered outreach and partnerships: DEP trailer attendance, food orders, strolling entertainment from Grand Fallons (12–2 p.m.), and invitations to the Watershed Ambassador and local school clubs to table or participate. Newsletter deadlines and follow-up coordination with the high school Environmental Club were set to support volunteer recruitment and event staffing.
The Commission adjourned having left contingency plans in place if the dock is unavailable, and members said they will continue to coordinate logistics and retrieval efforts with EZ Docks and the Department of Public Works.
