The East Haven Town Council voted to transfer $91,500 from a contingency account to utility accounts to cover last fiscal year’s higher-than-expected utility bills. Town staff told the council that the ordinance allocates $79,500 to electric, $6,000 to water and $6,000 to gas, moving the funds from contingency account 10050885-58689 to cover the shortfalls.
Town staff framed the transfer as a corrective step: "This is to clear up the balances basically on our utility bill for the last fiscal year," a staff speaker said. Council members asked whether another large increase is expected next year; staff said they do not know. The motion to approve the transfer passed by roll call with the council recorded in favor.
