Post Rock Extension director warns federal cuts cost one staff position, plans strategic meeting

Post Rock Extension Director Nora Rhoades told the Jewell County commissioners July 28 that federal funding reductions have forced her office to eliminate one position and that staff will hold a strategic planning meeting to determine how to manage the loss. Rhoades also said the office completed the final of five fairs for the season and that the fair board will meet to debrief and begin planning for next year.
Rhoades reported the office is working on the budget and preparing for an RNR hearing. She described the staffing change as a direct result of federal funding cuts: “Federal money is being cut for the Post Rock District which has caused a position to be lost so they will be having a strategic planning meeting to decide how to approach losing that employee.” Commissioners did not take an immediate action on staffing at the meeting; the matter will be addressed through upcoming budget and planning work.
