Jewell County commissioners heard status reports July 28 from multiple department heads on summer operations, budget work and upcoming training. County Clerk Myka Zadina told the board that “bill pay is this week” and that her office is finalizing township budgets, preparing RNR notices and beginning work for the November election.
County Appraiser Anna Porter said staff are finishing supplements and working on changes to the 2025 tax roll so SO tax statements will be correct. Several department heads highlighted operational and training work: Ambulance Director Vincent Urbaniak described recent standbys at the Threshing Bee and rodeo and an upcoming state billing workshop in Manhattan; Solid Waste Director David Walton reported progress on the construction-and-demolition (C&D) pit and staging area; and Custodian Chris Petet presented a Cummins quote for generator repairs.
The updates framed decisions later in the meeting: commissioners approved routine abatements and appointments and reappointed Jan Carlson to the Central Kansas Library District. The board adjourned at 10:28 a.m.
