"So say we had a student in our science and medicine program that wanted to be a nurse. They would be enrolled in dual enrollment nursing 101 at Lawrence Tech, and then they would also have the opportunity to job shadow or internship at Henry Ford Hospital," Lively said. He added that the partnership produced scholarship opportunities from the postsecondary partner and positioned students ahead in credit accumulation.
Lively argued that tightly coupling postsecondary credit with workplace experience builds attendance, engagement and a college‑going culture — outcomes he said improved attendance and reduced chronic absenteeism at his prior school.
