Pitman departments report library attendance up, water/sewer and highway work after storms

Council received routine departmental updates at its Jan. 27 meeting, with the McCowan Memorial Library reporting notable year-over-year increases and public-works departments outlining recent operational activity after winter storms.
Councilwoman Musto said McCowan Memorial Library had 62,059 visitors in 2024 (an increase of 12.5%), 38,292 material checkouts, 1,153 internet users, 310 children/teen programs and 3,755 program attendances; summer reading hosted three performers and drew about 320 attendees. Water & Sewer reported 25 mark-out requests, seven sewer plunges, multiple meter upgrades (52 meter heads upgraded and one meter body replaced), three meter reads related to billing questions, and leak repairs on Bethel Mill, East Holly Ave, and Northeast Ave. The Highway Department reported collecting 128.66 tons of trash, 29.69 tons of recyclables, 50 yards of brush, and completing pothole and sinkhole repairs, storm-drain cleaning and sign repairs.
Mayor Razze and Public Works Supervisor Fred Rodi also noted that a borough trash truck suffered an oil-pan puncture at a county landfill; the borough is pursuing a rental while repairs proceed and exploring potential recourse with the landfill contractor. Officials reminded motorists to drive cautiously during winter conditions after several weather-related crashes responded to by PPD.
