Jewell County Commissioners approve Nex-Tech IT contract, clear two abatements after routine department reports

The Jewell County Commissioners on Aug. 4, 2025 voted to sign a 60-month agreement with Nex-Tech for countywide IT support and approved two tax abatements during a meeting that ran from 8:30 a.m. to 10:18 a.m.
Commissioner Brent Beck moved to sign the Nex-Tech contract for "full IT support on all county computers, office 365, cyber security and also replacing thirteen computers that will not support Windows 11." Commissioner Ervin Underwood seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Separately, Commissioner Ervin Underwood moved to approve abatement #2627 and #2626; Commissioner Brent Beck seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The agenda also included routine department reports and multiple road-maintenance discussions. Vincent Urbaniak presented the EMS report for July showing 21 runs and noted upcoming billing and EMT training. Road Department staff described ongoing asphalt patching on Webber Road and a plan to asphalt six miles, estimated at 1,700 tons of asphalt per mile.
The meeting record shows several operational concerns raised by staff, including delayed parts for a tree cutter mounting and questions about grader routes and staffing. Commissioners discussed dust-control options and terrace runoff washing out county roads but took no formal action on those items. County Clerk Myka Zadina recorded the proceedings and the meeting adjourned at 10:18 a.m.
