The Spearman I.S.D. Board of Trustees approved a resolution authorizing certain designated school employees to carry and store firearms on district property pursuant to Board Policy CKC(LOCAL). The motion was made by Abby Pipkin, seconded by Jay Tracy, and carried unanimously, 7–0.
The motion also authorized Superintendent James Layman to verify and maintain necessary documentation and training records related to the authorization. The board had previously moved into a closed meeting under the Texas Open Meetings Act provision listed as Security (551.076) to discuss Guardian Team members; members reconvened in open session and then acted on the resolution.
