The mayor said the moratorium is intended to give the village time to gather information about safety and operational impacts and is not an outright ban: “It’s just saying there’s a moratorium for a year until we learn more about it,” the mayor said during the discussion.
The mayor pointed to concerns from the police department, fire department and Department of Public Works and said the moratorium could be extended if the village has not obtained adequate information to ensure public safety. The motion to set the hearing was moved by resident Alex Desalani and seconded by a committee member; the motion passed by voice vote.
