Council authorizes $7,280 purchase of six refurbished in-car computers

City Manager (S7) said the city's current in-car computers run Windows 10 and are no longer supported; a communications officer found a vendor offering refurbished units with a three-year warranty. "Council is scheduled to consider approving the purchase of of 6 refurbished in car computers from, and I'm sure I'll get this wrong, Fortesh Holdings, for Tel Repco, in the amount of $7,280," the manager said when introducing the item.
Councilmember S4 moved to waive purchasing-ordinance requirements under section 64-53 d and to authorize the $7,280 purchase with expenses charged to the police equipment acquisition line item; the motion was supported and passed on roll call. Council discussion noted the purchase would allow compatibility with future Windows versions (the machines were described as able to accept "Windows 12").
The police chief (S6) thanked the communications officer Baranowski for locating the vendor and noted the warranty as a cost-saving measure. The council did not attach additional conditions to the authorization.
