Council approves Axon interview-room recorder to replace failing system

City Manager (S7) said the current interview-room system is no longer serviceable and that the proposed Axon unit is compatible with the city's in-car and body-camera systems and Evidence.com used by prosecutors. "Council is scheduled to consider approving the purchase of Axon interview room recording system," the manager said, explaining the need to replace an unreliable vendor-supported unit.
Councilmember S8 moved to waive purchasing-ordinance requirements under section 64-53 d and to authorize the purchase of the Axon system for $6,311 with the expense charged to the police equipment acquisition line item; the motion passed on a roll-call vote. The police chief (S6) offered no additional remarks during discussion.
The council did not attach additional stipulations in the motion; the manager framed the purchase as necessary to restore reliable interview-room recording and automatic uploads to the prosecutor's evidence system.
