Brian Melton told the board he wants to widen and extend his driveway to provide safer off-street parking for his household. "I have 4 kids at home, 2 sets of twins, actually, that will eventually be driving," Melton said, describing the safety rationale for adding driveway capacity and noting similar driveway configurations exist nearby.
Staff and engineering reviewed the plan and identified no drainage or coverage issues; staff recommended approval subject to the submitted site plan. Board members agreed the change would not alter the essential character of the neighborhood and voted unanimously to approve the variance. The matter will proceed to administrative review and the petitioner will follow up with village staff on permit requirements.
