Green Island formalizes no-parking at George & Market after emergency signage

A staff member said the signs were put up initially on an emergency basis when the intersection became a bus stop for high-school students traveling to Waterbury.
"We did it as an emergency, when we found out that that intersection... was also going to be a bus stop, for the high school students taking the bus to Waterbury," the staff member said, noting positive feedback and improved sight lines. The law specifies no parking 25 feet from the corner to keep visibility clear; the change makes that restriction permanent rather than temporary.
The board moved, seconded and carried the adoption; the transcript records the motion as 'carried' but does not list individual vote tallies. Officials said the restriction will apply at all times to reduce weekend parking that had previously obstructed visibility.
