Assembly concurs with Senate amendments to expand teacher exchange agreements with Mexico

Assemblymember Alvarez asked the Assembly to concur in Senate amendments to AB 2056 (National Teachers Expansion Act), which would extend authorized teacher-exchange agreements to county offices, charter schools and school districts to bring bilingual, bicultural teachers from Mexico on a temporary basis.
Assemblymember Alvarez presented AB 2056 and said Senate amendments were technical and clarifying. The bill — described as the National Teachers Expansion Act — would extend existing authorized teacher exchanges with Mexico to county offices of education, charter schools and school districts.
Alvarez said the expansion aims to increase the number of bilingual and bicultural teachers available to California students on a temporary basis. "This would allow qualified teacher exchanges from Mexico by extending authorized exchanges to county offices of education, to charter schools, and for school districts to directly, enter into these agreements…allowing more teachers who are bicultural and bilingual to come and serve our California students on a temporary basis," Alvarez said.
