Assembly adopts resolution declaring 'food is medicine' and urges continued CalAIM nutrition supports

The Assembly adopted HR 110, recognizing the role of nutritious food in preventing disease and calling for continued investment in CalAIM nutrition supports that have already reached more than 315,000 Californians, advocates said.
Assemblymember Bonta presented House Resolution 110 and described food as a tool to prevent chronic disease and reduce costly hospitalizations. "I rise today on behalf of the beautiful people of Oakland, Alameda, and Emeryville to recognize that food is life, food is substance, and food is medicine," Bonta said.
Bonta noted that CalAIM nutrition and food supports have reached "more than 315,000 Californians" and urged continued investment as federal authorization for parts of CalAIM approaches its expiration. The resolution drew broad co-sponsorship (62 coauthors were added for coauthor roll call) and was adopted by voice vote.
Advocates from Full Well, the Food Is Medicine Collaborative, the California Food and Farming Network, and the Alameda County Community Food Bank were acknowledged in the gallery.
