Fresno EDC touts Good Jobs Challenge placements and subsidized employment tied to CalWORKs

He highlighted a partnership with Fresno County Department of Social Services that placed more than 2,600 people into subsidized employment, yielding nearly 2,000,000 hours of work and roughly $24.5 million in wages.
“To date, through this partnership, we have placed over 2,600 people into employment through subsidized employment, working nearly 2000000 hours and earning more than $24,500,000 in wages,” Oliver said. He also summarized the Good Jobs Challenge—a $23 million Department of Commerce investment in regional training and employer‑validated pathways—reporting more than 1,300 job placements and more than 2,000 people in training to date.
Oliver urged the committee to consider incentives and procurement standards that create a “race to the top” among employers and training providers to expand community benefits and local hiring as the state attracts capital‑intensive industries.
