Pitman Borough Council introduced Ordinance No. 01, 2025 on Jan. 13 to amend Chapter 2, Section 62 of the borough code to add one additional member to the Economic Development Committee who shall be a mayoral appointee. The ordinance was introduced for first reading; the public hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2025.
Councilman Mazzola suggested a specific change before final adoption: "Councilman Mazzola suggested amending the ordinance before final adoption to include an additional member who is a representative of Sustainable Pitman to serve for a one year term, making the total number of members an uneven 15 members which would avoid a divided vote." The suggested amendment, if adopted, would reserve the new seat for an explicitly named community organization representative for a limited term and change committee composition from even to odd to reduce the risk of tie votes.
The ordinance was introduced under the regular procedural motion and will return for public hearing and final action at the Jan. 27 meeting. No public hearing testimony on this ordinance was recorded at the Jan. 13 meeting.
