Waco ISD adopts $162.6 million general fund budget for 2024–25; student enrollment rising

The Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees on Aug. 22 approved the district—udget for fiscal year 2024–25, adopting a General Fund budget of $162,572,669, a Child Nutrition Fund budget of $12,235,453 and a Debt Service Fund budget of $25,996,492. Jim Patton moved to adopt the budgets; Jonathan Grant seconded the motion, which passed unanimously (7-0).
Superintendent Dr. Kincannon told trustees the school year started smoothly and highlighted completed initiatives including in-house transportation management, Transformation Waco campus transitions and a redesigned credit recovery program. He reported first-day enrollment of 12,369 students, which had increased to 13,398 and is expected to continue growing through Labor Day and toward the PEIMS snapshot date in late October. The board pproved the budgets as presented to meet state reporting requirements.
Implementation and fiscal oversight were discussed during the presentation; the budget materials and year-to-year comparisons were made available on the district website prior to the board hearing required under Education Code §44.004.
