County youth team wins YADAP mini-grant at Christopher Newport conference

County youth and staff reported that the Surry County YADAP team won a mini-grant sponsored by the Virginia ABC to support a peer-led prevention plan developed at a Christopher Newport University conference. Program sponsor Spencer Logan introduced the student team and described their STAND framework (Situation, Task, Action, Next Step) aimed at reducing tobacco and vaping among teens.
Logan and the students credited partner organizations including the Department of Youth and Family Resources and the Can Do Coalition for supporting their trip and said the grant will help implement school- and community-based prevention activities.
