Residents say new rumble strips on County Road 20 are disrupting sleep and health

At the open forum, multiple residents described significant noise and health effects from rumble strips installed on County Road 20. Marsha Ritton said the strips have disrupted her sleep since June 8 and that traffic—particularly heavy commercial vehicles—creates constant noise that prevents rest. "Since June 8 at 04:36PM when these rumble strips were installed, my life has changed... I have lost sleep every night," she said.
Dennis Lita provided overnight decibel measurements and described an increase in PTSD symptoms. He told the board he recorded readings of 62–70 decibels during the night and criticized a county test that he said undercounted night-time impacts by using staged or slowed traffic. "They need to be covered up. They're louder than any speed bumps in the county," Lita said.
Speakers said they had contacted county staff and state agencies (including the Minnesota Attorney General and MnDOT) and asked the county to respond. The board acknowledged the complaints, discussed the possibility of follow-up studies and outreach, and scheduled additional public engagement; no immediate removal or covering of the rumble strips was recorded in the meeting minutes.
