Mildred P. Jones used her three-minute public-comment slot to allege a pattern of harassment and retaliation by the director of the county social services department. Jones described being accused of making false statements, excluded from activities and, she said, asked to work without pay in support of community events.
"I'm here today to formally discuss a hostile work and toxic, work environment where I have been harassed and retaliated against," Jones said. She recounted incidents where the director allegedly spoke to other staff about her, questioned her driving a vehicle to an outing and later called her at home about the issue. Jones asked the board to consider her concerns and to ensure fair treatment of staff.
The board did not take immediate action at the meeting; the comment was recorded in the public record.
