Benton County signs 28E agreement with Iowa DNR to handle private well permits locally

The Benton County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution #26-66 to enter into an intergovernmental (28E) agreement with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Under the agreement, the DNR delegates to Benton County the authority to evaluate and issue permits for private water-well construction and reconstruction in the county while retaining concurrent authority under Iowa Code Chapter 455B and relevant administrative rules (567 IAC 39 and 567 IAC 49).
The resolution also notes that Benton County Code Section 34.2 assigns enforcement responsibility to the Benton County Board of Health and its designee, Benton County Environmental Health. The motion to approve the 28E agreement passed unanimously (Volz moved/Tippett seconded).
