Sheriff's deputy reports fewer crashes, rise in traffic stops in October

"The traffic unit has seen a 50% reduction of crashes," Lt. Slater said, and he added that the reported crashes in October were all on Highway 89. He explained the department adjusted prior reporting that had counted traffic stops differently and said the office now reports calls per service (excluding traffic stops). Lt. Slater also reported 146 traffic stops for the month and 63 tickets issued.
Slater told the council that cell-phone usage is a major contributing factor to crashes and said the traffic unit will continue targeted enforcement in the area. No further staffing or budget adjustments were announced at the meeting.
