Planning commission member outlines Inkster public participation plan and Clean Blocks pilot

Williams described outreach efforts including a "Voices of Inkster" marketing campaign with community video clips and said the city has updated its zoning ordinance. On neighborhood code efforts, Williams described a District 2 pilot called "Clean Blocks," intended to pair code enforcement with resources and referrals for residents who cannot meet compliance obligations because of income, age or disability. "If they're low income or seniors, or, disabled, maybe they need our help, and we can provide them resources, support, and referral," Williams said.
Williams told the council the public participation plan was originally developed in 2024 and is part of the RRC certification requirements; the annual update is being shared to communicate the plan’s activities and content to council and the public. The speaker directed residents to the meeting packet for the full plan and noted certification makes the city eligible for funding and economic tools.
