Trustees press district staff for clearer reporting after $1.2M insurance-related transfer

A trustee said, “When I read this, I said, wait a minute — I didn't even know that we added $1,200,000 from the fund balance for health.” Doctor Cantu and district finance staff explained that the amount was recorded as an operating transfer and appears in audit and transfer schedules at fiscal year end; staff pledged to include clearer line-item presentation in the April budget amendment. The board discussed where that transfer was located in the existing financial reports and asked staff to make the transfer and its effects more visible in routine monthly reporting.
The clarification came amid the vendor presentations on the insurance workshop; trustees said they wanted transparent monthly reporting so they could evaluate consultant recommendations against accurate district financials before making procurement decisions.
