Broken Arrow’s City Council voted to approve a rezoning and planned-unit development request (PUD 1787 / BAZ 1788) that will allow a proposed multifamily development on land tied to the Gateway Foundation. The motion to approve, made by a council member and seconded by another, passed after a public hearing that featured both supporters and opponents.
John Fury, president of Gateway Foundation’s board, asked the council for approval, saying, "And so we request and respectfully request that you consider approving our our application." Council and staff discussed comp-plan alignment and traffic studies before the motion. The application covers roughly 35.5 acres; staff told the council the parcel is partially platted as part of the Gateway campus, with the proposal adding a multifamily component intended to provide workforce housing.
Planning staff said the Planning Commission recommended approval; the council’s motion followed that recommendation. The mayor noted the council would continue to work with staff and residents to address outstanding neighborhood concerns after the vote.
