West Rusk trustees set August schedule for budget hearing, workshop and special meeting

The West Rusk County Consolidated ISD board on June 16 voted unanimously to set the district’s August timeline for budget adoption and related meetings. Trustee Matt Eastwood moved to call a special board meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2025; to hold a Budget Workshop at 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2025; and to call the 2025–2026 public budget hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2025, with the regular August meeting moved to 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 25 to consider final budget and tax-rate approval.
Superintendent Lawrence Coleman told trustees the district and its architect will meet with campus leaders and a SAMCO representative to coordinate bond sale timing and avoid losing hold-harmless state funding. “This will be done in a timely manner in order for the district not lose the hold harmless monies from the state,” Coleman said. The board did not adopt a tax rate at the June meeting; formal tax-rate adoption is scheduled for the August meeting and public hearing.
