Board completes required GT training; staff says about 5% of students are identified as gifted

"Texas administrative quote, 29.122 requires it," Miss Morales said, explaining the board’s legal responsibility to monitor GT services rather than manage day‑to‑day delivery. Morales described the six areas the district monitors (fidelity of services, identification, service design, curriculum/instruction, professional learning and family/community involvement) and noted the district conducts annual program evaluations using test scores, surveys and participation data.
When trustees asked how many students are identified as GT, Morales reported the district is at about “5.2, 5.6,” which she said is roughly the state average. Staff described kindergarten prescreening, committee‑based identification using multiple data sources, and annual updates to the board from the GT advisory committee. Trustees were invited to observe committee work but no changes to policy or funding were proposed during the session.
